Councillors and leadership
How councillors will represent Greenhaven and how political leadership will be organised.
Ward councillors
Greenhaven councillors will be elected from wards and will represent the people and places in those wards while participating in decisions for Greenhaven as a whole. Councillors are public office holders. They are not council employees and their democratic role is distinct from the professional work of council officers.
Councillor directory
After the first Greenhaven election, the public directory will allow residents to find councillors by ward and to see council contact details, council roles and committee memberships. Where the standards arrangements require interests to be registered, the councillor page will link to the relevant register information.
Leader and Cabinet
Under the settled leader and cabinet model, Full Council elects the Leader unless another lawful model is established. The Leader appoints the Cabinet in accordance with the governance arrangements and executive responsibility is exercised through that structure. The constitution will identify decisions reserved to Full Council and those that can be taken through the executive.
Political activity and council business
The council website records institutional and democratic information. Party political campaigning belongs to political parties and candidates rather than the council. Official council pages will therefore distinguish council roles, decisions and contact information from party political material.
Casework and representation
A councillor can raise matters on behalf of residents and communities, contribute to local debate and take part in formal council decisions. After elections, councillor pages will show the council contact route. Administrative service requests will continue to use the relevant council service rather than councillor casework.
Published council roles
Where councillors hold formal council roles, such as Leader, Cabinet portfolio, committee chair or membership of another council body, those roles will be shown with the councillor record and the relevant committee or decision making pages. Changes will be dated so that the current position can be distinguished from former office.
Current position
Greenhaven Council has not yet held its council election. There are therefore no Greenhaven councillors, Leader or Cabinet members to list on this page at present.
